  • The Stanforth Conway is designed for touring at pace; a speedy trans-continental tour or a weekend road trip. Or in Sean Conway's case a world record. It is constructed in the UK using Reynolds 853 steel. The version ridden by Sean had a Whisky Carbon fork - No 7 cross disc QR, as pictured. It also had a Reynolds wheelset and SP dynamo hub.

The hand built fillet brazed frame gives the right combination of strength, weight and comfort. The bike is powered by a Shimano 105/Ultegra transmission and TRP Spyre disc brakes provide the stopping power.

Why is it called the Stanforth Conway? We collaborated with Sean on the development of this bike to ensure it delivers over and beyond the needs of the long distance tourer who wants to travel at pace without loaded panniers.

The frame is hand built in England. It is fillet brazed using a mid-gauge of Reynolds 853, so a light but strong air hardened and heat treated steel. Mid-gauge means it’s still lighter than the 853 ATB tubing but stronger than the road 853 spec – this is designed for lighter weight baggage as opposed to fully loaded panniers – see the Skyelander or Kibo for loaded touring bikes.

The Stanforth Conway comes equipped with a Shimano 105/Ultegra 2 x 11 transmission with 105 STI’s, 105 34-50 chainset, 105 front derailleur, Ultegra 11-34 cassette and Ultegra rear derailleur. The disc brakes are TRP Spyre with 160mm rotors.

The standard wheelset is DT Swiss R460 DB rims hand built onto Shimano RS505 32 hole centrelock disc hubs. However Sean's world record breaking bike has the Reynolds 46 Aero DB wheelset.

Reynolds - 46 Aero C Disc Brake Wheelset

The all-new 46 AERO DB takes the next step in aerodynamic performance by incorporating a versatile DET™ profile to lower drag and improve crosswind handling. The 19mm tubeless ready rim channel offers excellent fit for wider tires and this added width also bolsters lateral stiffness while enhancing overall ride quality. The new custom hubs by Industry Nine offer lightning fast engagement, and the center lock rotor mount means that braking performance is never left in question.

The rest of the components are high spec including heat treated Nitto drops, a Brooks Cambium C17 saddle and Marathon Racer 35mm tyres. For tours or adventures where you’ll be tackling bad road conditions or gravel we also offer the Panaracer Gravel King 43mm as an option.

It is finished in Bahama Gold. The frames are double powder coated for increased durability and longevity. Other colours are available, just let us know. There are also a number of other options to customise your Stanforth Conway, some of which are listed here
