Stanforth Conway Sports Tourer
The Stanforth Conway is a sports tourer or performance tourer, designed for a cross-continent tour at pace. The fillet brazed frame is hand built in the UK with a Reynolds 853 steel main triangle and 725 stays. It has mounts for mudguards, bottle cages as well as front (steel fork only) and rear racks to carry lightweight luggage
The price includes custom sizing of your frame to best fit you. You can either visit our showroom for a fitting (no extra cost) or send us your measurements. Click here to arrange a fitting or for info on how to take the measurements.
The current lead time from ordering your custom Stanforth to your bike being ready is 16-18 weeks.
The Stanforth Conway is designed for touring at pace; a speedy trans-continental tour or a weekend road trip. It is constructed in the UK using Reynolds 853 steel, has bosses for front (with steel fork only) and rear racks and mudguards, and has clearance for wider tyres than both a regular road or cyclocross bike.
The hand built fillet brazed frame gives the right combination of strength, weight and comfort. The bike is powered by a Shimano 105 transmission and TRP Spyre disc brakes provide the stopping power.
The carbon fork option is the Ritchey WCS Carbon Disc Adventure Gravel Fork with 12Mm Thru Axle.
Why is it called the Conway? Over the last few years we have been big fans of Sean Conway; a true adventurer, but importantly a specialist in lightweight bike touring. Stanforth Bikes have collaborated with Sean to ensure the Stanforth Conway is a bike that meets the needs of the long distance tourer who wants to travel at pace without heavy loaded panniers. It’s equally at home on a local club ride as it is on a trans-continental tour.
The frame is hand built in England. It is fillet brazed using a mid-gauge of Reynolds 853, so a light but strong air hardened and heat treated steel. Mid-gauge means it’s still lighter than the 853 ATB tubing but stronger than the road 853 spec – this is designed for lighter weight baggage as opposed to fully loaded panniers – see the Skyelander or Kibo for loaded touring bikes.
The Conway comes equipped with a Shimano R7000 2 x 11 transmission with 105 STI’s, RS510 34-50T chainset, 105 front derailleur, 105 11-34T cassette and rear derailleur. The disc brakes are TRP Spyre with 160mm rotors. The DT Swiss R460 DB rims hand built onto Bitex 32 hole centrelock disc hubs. The rest of the components are high spec including heat treated Nitto drops, a Brooks Cambium C17 saddle and Marathon Racer 35mm tyres. For tours or adventures where you’ll be tackling bad road conditions or gravel we also offer the Panaracer Gravel King 43mm as an option (please note with 43mm tyres mudguard won't be fitted).
It is finished in a choice of Bahama Gold or Ash Green, or any of our stock colours, or for an extra charge one of our custom colours. The frames are powder coated for increased durability and longevity.

Changing your order
As long as construction of the frame hasn’t begun, or bespoke components or frame parts haven’t been ordered we will do what we can to accommodate the changes as we want you to have the ideal bike for you. If it’s too late to make the changes the reasonable additional charges will apply to make the changes, either for labour, frame parts or bike components.
Cancelling your order
Once you have placed an order you have made a commitment to purchase the bike. We then order the bike components (e.g. frame tubes, lugs, brakes etc) on your behalf to build the bike to your requirements. If a customer cancels the purchase once the order has been paid for we will keep the monies to cover the costs incurred. No frame or parts will be supplied to the customer in the event of cancellation, we only provide complete bikes to customers.
Returns Policy
Due to the fact that 1) there is no standard Stanforth bike as every bike is likely to be different with so many options, and 2) because all of our frames are made to order, we do not offer refunds for unwanted bikes or frames.
All of our bikes are made to order to your specific requirements so unfortunately they are non – refundable.
Faulty/damaged bikes
If your bike is faulty/damaged please email simon@stanforthbikes.co.uk with the following information:
- Your full name, date of purchase and the address the bike was delivered to
- The frame number (as written on the warranty) and confirmation of which bike/frame is coming back to us
We will then discuss with you the best way of fixing the problem, ideally through replacement parts being fitted by a bike technician local to you. Please do not send back to us without discussing it with us first.
We are unable to give a refund in these circumstances but we will make sure the problem is fixed.
