SKYELANDER DISC

When we launched the Skyelander we were frequently asked if we can build a disc version - the Skyelander Disc was launched in 2017.

Both the rim and disc brake versions of the Skyelander 700c, are built with Reynolds 631 or 853 tubing. The Skyelander is ideal for long distance touring. For those looking for a comfortable tourer for roads and towpaths, that can take loaded panniers, then this is the bike for you. For rougher terrain see the Kibo and Pamira.

It is designed with clearance for 35mm tyres with mudguards. If you'd like frame and fork clearance for a bigger or smaller tyre, just let us know and we can design the frame accordingly.

The frame's relatively long chainstays and the steel frame make this the ideal companion on a long distance loaded road trip - strong, comfortable and stable with loaded panniers.

The Skyelander frame is hand built in the UK using the high quality air-hardened British Reynolds 631 steel for the main triangle and chainstays. The seatstays are Reynolds 725, and the fork blades disc specific Reynolds 631. 631 is significantly stronger than Cromoly steel tubing. The frame is also double butted for extra strength at the joins. Or you can upgrade to Reynolds 853, its higher strength means we can use marginally thinner tubes to reduce the frame's weight.

As well as being hand built in the UK, our frame and forks are lugged for increased durability. We can also build fillet brazed versions of the Skyelander, again just email us on info@stanforthbikes.co.uk to discuss.

Please note we don't tig weld as tests have shown joins to be weaker using this process, we braze only with either lugs or by fillet brazing.

All of our frames are custom made to best fit you. You can either send us some key measurements or better still, come and visit us for a fitting. The frame will be designed specifically for you, no two frames are the same.

"I had some nice rides on the Skyelander...it gets better the further you go...at 50 miles, I appreciated its stability and comfort."  Cycling UK

We can build the Skyelander with either a 1 1/8” threadless steerer for an ahead stem or with a 1" threaded steerer for a quill stem.  We recommend the ahead stem. The top tube can be horizontal or sloped. We can also build a Rohloff version of the frame. As all of our frames are made to order we customise top tube and seat tube lengths to best fit the customer, either visit us for a fitting or send us your measurements - click here for more info
