KIBO DISC FRAME & FORKS

Kibo ahead frame with 1 1/8" threadless steerer

Lugged frame with black powder coat finish
Lugged fork in Reynolds 631 steel with low rider pannier bosses

Reynolds 631 tubing

The Kibo disc frame is hand built in the UK using the strongest gauge of the quality air-hardened British Reynolds 631 steel for the main triangle and chainstays.  The seatstays are Reynolds 725, and the forks Reynolds 631. 631 is significantly stronger than Cromoly steel tubing. The frame is also double butted for extra strength at the joins.

The Kibo disc frame differs to the standard Kibo frame in terms of the brake cable guides and routing, the rear dropouts and the addition of the disc mount on the fork blade. We also use stiffer disc specific Reynolds 631 blades on the fork. The disc mounts are IS for a post mount calliper. The dropouts are for a QR hub axle (as are all the Kibo’s). Thru axle is an upgrade option if that is your preference.

The specific tubes tubes used on your frame, within the Reynolds 631 range, will be chosen based on your weight and planned load. The tube wall thickness and diameters have a significant bearing on frame stiffness so your frame can be designed specifically with your planned touring in mind.

We also use lugs, proven to be the strongest form of frame join. In terms of looks, nothing quite compares to lugs for that handmade frame aesthetic. Fillet brazed joins are also an option.

All of our frames are custom made to best fit you. You can either send us some key measurements or better still, come and visit us for a fitting. The frame will be designed specifically for you, no two frames are the same.

As all of our frames are made to order we can have sloping or horizontal top tubes on either. We also do a step through version.

The frame and forks have bosses for disc brakes, bottle cages, a front low rider rack and rear pannier rack, as well as mudguards.

Why steel? This is an expedition bike so there's only one material suitable for the frame and forks and that's steel. Wherever you are in the world steel frames can be fixed more easily (in the unlikely event that it needs welding...) and on a rigid bike the steel provides a more comfortable ride.

As all of our frames are made to order we will customise the seat tube and top tube lengths to best fit you, either visit us for a fitting or send us your measurements - click here for more info

For heavier riders we can tweak the tube diameters/thicknesses, please get in touch if you'd like to discuss this - click here for more info
